Hey there! I think we should have a book club to introduce each other to stories we love, and discuss ones whose fandom can be hard to find.
Maybe suggesting and voting on books is a good way to choose. Any thoughts? And in the meantime, anyone can start threads for anything they like.

Oooh, can I not-so-humbly suggest the Zamonia books? More specifically, probably the City of Dreaming Books or The 13 1/2 Lives of Captain Bluebear? Because they are just so. damn. good. and nobody knows they exist... >.<

That sounds really cool. Also reminded me we should get some Diskworld down in here. I'm thinking of starting with something Valdemar (Probably Arrows, even if it's not the most interesting, it is the first) or His Majesty's Dragon.

Crap, I haven't read anything but fanfic in so long I kinda want to cry. Favorite fictional books are~ Sabriel, American Gods, His Dark Materials, Misty Lackey's Diana Tregarde and Elemental Masters books, and Robin McKinley's Deerskin. Actually, probably anything by McKinley-she's just hard to find around here so it's slow going. I have an epic guilty pleasure for re-told fairy tales. I'm also working my way through the Kushiel books, and Song of Fire and Ice, but again-slow going. Very. :/

Read HDM, Sabriel, and American Gods! Those are great. The Elemental Masters are pretty good too.

The Diana Tregarde books are pretty brilliant too, if you can find em. (They were reprinted a year or two ago, but they're still uuber hard to find. At least for me.)
One of the very first supernatural romance/sassy paranormal investigator type chick series, and a pretty serious case of LK Hamilton books done right in my mind. They're also set in the same verse as just about all of Lackey's modern fantasy books, so you see other characters pop up here and there.
A bit campy, but better than the bad smut that is the later Anita Blake and all of Merry Gentry books.
Also. Valdemarrrrrrrrrr.... have you read the newest books yet? The Collegium Chronicles, I think she's calling them? She's improved so much since Arrows, it's a little brain breaky. Not that Arrows were bad, per se, just a touch thirteen year old girl. Which was kinda fitting, since, you know-Talia. The Owl books are still my favorites from Valdemar, but the CC are a close second. :3

My genre's fantasy, for the most part. There's always room for the classics though. Shakespeare and Orwell are wonderful, as are the Sherlock Holmes short stories. For lighter reading I'd recommend Chronicles of Chrestomanci, Septimus Heap, and of course Harry Potter. ASOIAF is brilliant, as is The Alchemist's Cat and LOTR.
I have loads more suggestions, actually.

YES THE COLLEGIUM BOOKS Foundation has to be my favorite Valdemar book besides The Black Gryphon (which technically isn't even Valdemar) Because I love Mags's POV and I have a soft spot for fantasy!school stories done well. Although Kirball is annoying. We should just start threads for each of these series/worlds. I have so much I want to talk about!

Ha ha, I kinda like Kirball because polocrosse and capture the flag are both games/sports I'm pretty fond of. Which is saying a lot since I tend to hate team sports. But! It is a bit needlessly complex and...IDK I could just deal with less games overall. Three or four total instead of three or four per book. It's filler, really.
I'm guessing it's gonna be another of her Chekhov's Guns, a la the arrow code and whatnot, since we know there's more war with Karse coming-and cashing in on HP and Quiddich of course-but it's a little heavy handed.
I kinda feel like Mags is what Skif was/could have been before she ruined him, so, nine kinds of adorable and roguish and the characters all seem so much more natural and real than previous trilogies. I kinda want to smack Lena upside the head, though, no lie.
Yeah, I think we need a Valdemar/Velgarth thread before we totally highjack this one....*koffkoff*

I'd really love to get in on this, though I have no recommendations to contribute myself as I'm still rather wonky when it comes to getting myself to read. Someone should buckle me down and get me to because I want to so badly but a lot of things get in the way haha ;;
Anyhow, if this is something we decide to make reality, then please count me in!

Sure, I'll start a thread. Or you can, it doesn't really matter.

So we'll need to figure out who's interested and what book. I'm leaning towards His Majesty's Dragon (Temeraire #1) but I'm fully open to other suggestions!

I approve of the His Majesty's Dragon idea, because I'd love the extra motivation to read the rest of the series... >.<
